Seit Freddy (Kick Gurry) von einem musikalisch enthemmten Punk in die Freuden der Live-Performance eingeführt wurde, hat er einen grossen Traum: Mit seiner eigenen Band will er Sydneys Rockszene erobern ? zumindest aber den ersten Gig landen. Als er Australiens erfolgreichsten Bandmanager kennen lernt, glaubt sich Freddy am Ziel. Doch der Branchen-Guru lässt die Garagenrocker zappeln: Ohne professionelles Demo-Tape läuft bei ihm gar nichts. Ausgerechnet jetzt aber ist die Band völlig pleite und ihre Mitglieder obendrein durch ein heftig rotierendes Beziehungskarussell abgelenkt: Leadgitarrist Joe (Brett Stiller) betrügt seine Freundin Kate (Maya Stange). Auf Kate wiederum hat Freddy ein Auge geworfen. Dessen Flamme, Bassistin Tanya (Pia Miranda), ist deshalb stinksauer auf ihn. Drummer Lucy (Chris Sadrinna) schliesslich beobachtet alles still, wenngleich von Drogen stimuliert, bis auch er in der Liebe den perfekten Rausch entdeckt. Es geht also rund zwischen Rock und Riffs. Doch trotz dieser Turbulenzen glaubt Freddy an die Band ? und an seine Zukunft mit Kate? Mit vielen Jungtalenten des australischen Films erinnert Alex Proyas, Regisseur visionärer Kino-Events wie THE CROW (?The Crow ? Die Krähe?, 1994) und DARK CITY (?Dark City?, 1998) an die Träume unzähliger Garagenrocker, zu denen auch er selbst einmal gehörte. GARAGE DAYS ist Proyas? erste Komödie und der überzeugende Beweis, wie charmant und lebendig sich stilistische Raffinesse, unverbrauchte Gesichter und ein cooler Soundtrack in einem Film verbinden lassen.
